Brandon Shaw started his musical pursuits at the age of 5, originally starting on piano. He picked up the bass at age 10, learning upright in the school orchestra as well as electric bass on the side. Brandon continued to study bass through high school, taking privately from Larry Zgonc (Portland Opera), and won numerous awards, including placing first in the Oregon state solo competition for classical bass.
Brandon attended Azusa Pacific University in Southern California, studying jazz, classical and pop with Francis Senger, Tim Eckert, Kristin Korb, and Tim Emmons. During his time in college he performed and toured with many different groups, playing many different styles, traveling locally and internationally. Brandon graduated with a B.A. and M.M. in bass performance.
Today as a freelance bassist, Brandon plays electric, upright, and synth bass in many different styles for many different artists as well as churches and groups. Brandon teaches privately, holding a small studio of aspiring bassists. He also is the co-founder of ThinkMusic Group, a music company that provides music for live events, as well as private in-home instruction.
Brandon has travelled and played with many artists to Italy, Germany, South Korea, Austria, Canada, Switzerland, and all over the United States. Brandon has had the opportunity to work with Scott Ryan, Aaron Hofman, Ethan Bortnick, Eliza Rickman, Act As If, Faith Hefty, among others.
